2013 In Review

This year at SurferNETWORK was one of tremendous progress and new challenges. Several Patents in streaming media technology were issued by the US Patent Office; significant upgrades were made to the listener experience with the Music Trivia Player; and we invested a significant amount of time and money into a complete overhaul of our infrastructure, both hardware and software, which dramatically enhanced our services. Unfortunately, as with anything new and improved, it came with challenges – I apologize for any inconvenience caused by these upgrades. Now, with these speed bumps behind us we can all reap the benefits, forge ahead into 2014 and not look back. Continue reading

Giving Thanks

Thanksgiving is upon us yet again, a time to gather with family and friends and share a meal, maybe catch some football if you can make it to the couch after dinner.

In the spirit of the Holiday, we’d like to take a minute to show some gratitude to you.  It’s easy to get caught up in the daily grind and take for granted the fact that we couldn’t be here without a great bunch of radio stations and other broadcasters, but most importantly people, to do business with.

2013 has been a good year for SurferNETWORK.  Turning 15 was a great milestone in the history of our company, and we are proud to have been able to share that with you.  So once again, Thank You. Safe travels to everyone making a trek to Thanksgiving Dinner, and if you’re kicking off Hanukkah today, Shalom!

Celebrating our 15th Anniversary

Exactly 15 years ago, on October 15, 1998, my partner Harry Emerson and I formed a company that we soon named SurferNETWORK.

Our vision was to create a ‘Just Like Radio’ experience for radio stations broadcasting on the Internet – a lofty goal since buffering and waiting was the rule.  Most of America still connected to the Internet using dial up services, if they connected at all. Continue reading

Arbitron’s 2013 Infinite Dial Report

Arbitron recently released their 2013 Infinite Dial Report, focusing on media consumption on and offline.  It’s a treasure chest of information in terms of how/when/where your listeners are, and how they consume and interact with content.

AM/FM Radio Still the Top Listening Platform – But a Cross Platform Strategy is Necessary

Overall, the report finds that radio still rules the road.  You have the most loyal following, and they stay glued to your content.  Even with the boom of Internet Radio options, 82% of respondents that listen to internet radio (including Pandora) find their way back to the AM/FM dial.  With 53% of Americans 12+ now owning a smartphone, you have the ability to engage your audience and request feedback all on the same device!  Are you leveraging this for success at your radio station? Sponsored Player and Integrated OnDemand

Today we are announcing the roll-out of two new features!

OnDemand1. OnDemand Files for your favorite show segments are now available for your listeners directly in your streaming player! Setting them up is a breeze using the Customer Control Panel – just select the file, give it a name, click upload and it’s done. On-Demand files can be videos of anything you might like to show your audience: snippets of sports events, local concerts, traffic accidents, weather reports, interviews and anything else you can imagine!

If you currently utilize our OnDemand Service, contact us today to get this setup and get a walk-through of managing the files. If you’re interested in adding an OnDemand service, you can contact me, or give us a call: (973) 691-7420. Head here to sample the new functionality.

Sponsored Player2. The Sponsored Player is a feature that many of you have asked for. This is a great feature to increase advertising and sponsorship sales! You now can customize the background image of your player to enhance the branding and design, or to allow an advertiser to “take over” the player. This option is also accessible in your Customer Control Panel Player Tab. Head here to look at a sample Sponsored Player in action.
