Arbitron recently released their 2013 Infinite Dial Report, focusing on media consumption on and offline. It’s a treasure chest of information in terms of how/when/where your listeners are, and how they consume and interact with content.

Today we are announcing the roll-out of two new features!
1. OnDemand Files for your favorite show segments are now available for your listeners directly in your streaming player! Setting them up is a breeze using the Customer Control Panel – just select the file, give it a name, click upload and it’s done. On-Demand files can be videos of anything you might like to show your audience: snippets of sports events, local concerts, traffic accidents, weather reports, interviews and anything else you can imagine!

2. The Sponsored Player is a feature that many of you have asked for. This is a great feature to increase advertising and sponsorship sales! You now can customize the background image of your player to enhance the branding and design, or to allow an advertiser to “take over” the player. This option is also accessible in your Customer Control Panel Player Tab. Head here to look at a sample Sponsored Player in action.

An article recently caught my eye in the Harvard Business Review’s daily e-mail that I thought would be great to share on our blog. The title of the article was “The Power of Real-Time Advertising”; being in the business of helping radio stations maximize their online advertising, naturally I clicked through. The discussion was about the Super Bowl, and how brands responded to the blackout early in the third quarter. The fact is that there are numerous other avenues for advertising budgets to go; digital being the most obvious as internet usage continues to explode here in the United States as well as abroad. Radio seems to be avoiding digital, in a time where the web could be its greatest asset in reinforcing the marketing message of its clients. Last week the team at SurferNETWORK witnessed firsthand the awesome power of Mother Nature as “Superstorm Sandy” devastated New Jersey and much of the tri-state area. This week SurferNETWORK attended our very first International Broadcasters IdeaBank, Bill Grywalski and I had a wonderful time meeting the radio station executives that attended this event. We are so ecstatic with the release of our upcoming streaming media player, and the feedback so far has been fantastic. We believe that the future of broadcasting is bright, and are working hard to keep our partner radio stations right at the forefront of the industry.
I believe that we have found a real niche in the IdeaBank – broadcasters focused on the future of radio, making it a great experience for listeners and profitable for the radio station. This has been at the core of SurferNETWORK’s culture since the beginning… revolutionizing radio online with an enhanced listener experience, and creating advertising opportunities for our partner radio stations.
